"GMT played what I'd have to describe as one of the best sets I've ever seen in my life ...
the sheer talent of those 3 guys is enough to make you
cry.
If you ever have the chance to see them, then bloody just drop
everything.
AMAZING, INSPIRING AND MAGNIFICENT!"

Hark 2 Tolwer, Bury, Manchester, 30.11.07
"Well went to see bernie and the boys at the Hark 2 Towler in Bury on Friday night.
At about 9:45 the guys appeared, walking therough the crowd to the
stage. All looking like true rock stars, all dressed for the stage. So
suddenly we kick of with a one chord intro and then into Wild West.
Bernie was incredible, best I have seen him for a while, really seemed
to enjoy it \and the others are by no means just his sidekicks. This is
a great three piece band all equal. John is a as always a great
presence on the stage and Robin Guy? Well what a drummer, plays
brilliantly, flashy but great. And does a bit of singing
So we got superb versions of ball and chain, cannonball, and a few
others from Bitter and twisted. However a slight problem was the PA
dying gradually until by the time You can't beat rock and roll the
vocals were non existent. Fortunatly all the back line and the drums
were adequate on their own so we were treated to a superb instrumental
jam for about ten minutes whilst Rob ran out around trying to get the
house PA back to life...
From then on it was even better, one new song which i didn't know but knew all the others. We lost Rocky Road due to the PA problems but never mind. Great bass work from John before Summerland, fantastic drum solo from Robin before New Orleans. Set proper finished with Smoke on the Water preceded by Bernie's solo. Absolutely amazing!!!, plenty of smoke from the smoke machine, Bernie doing some real guitar hero work, playing behind his head, guitar in the air, townshend style windmills. Superb stuff. Oh, John's smoking Mammoth bass is pretty cool as well... Then we got Star and Fire. A stunning gig, so good! Bernie was suffering from Flu as well but if this is how he plays when he is ill?
Then after the gig all three of the guys got changed and came
and mingled with us all, signing photos etc, have pictures taken. What
a fantatsic night, what great friendly talented guys.
This band are just so good.
If you like rock music this is the band! Screaming guitars, loud drums
and loud solid bass.None of this namby pamby acoustic unplugged stuff.
This band rock! It was just a brilliant night. ...
So see this band! best band ever.
As you may have realised I enjoyed it.
Can't wait to see them again soon! "(Craig McDonald) |

Hard Rock Hell, Minehead, 10th November 2007
"GMT: The T-shirt count around the site rightly suggested that these guys would be popular. The trio's enjoyable set was based on the excellent 'Bitter And Twisted' album, plus covers of 'New Orleans' (popularised by Gillan) and 'Smoke On The Water' (Zzzzzzz), and the place went absolutely mad when Twisted Sister's Dee Snider walked on from the wings to join them for an encore of 'Amaheevull', a song that he and guitarist Bernie Tormé recorded in their long-lost Desperado days." (Dave Ling)
Bernie and GMT would like to say a
VERY SPECIAL BIG THANK YOU to
Dee Snider for being Dee Snider
and for being truly EEVULL with GMT,

September
29th......and a cracking little venue called Esquires that was once a
Methodist Church. Tour manager Rob roped me into busting a gut by
carrying the equipment up to the stage and between us, we worked out
where to put McCoys huge bass cabs with the help of a couple of
housebricks!! Rob is the epitome of a Road Manager, always helpful
and courteous and its always good to see him again.
With the new GMT backdrop comes a new (to me anyway) intro tape
consisting of Big Bens chimes and the BBC pips on the world
service.......band hits the stage and a quick warm up while the
in-house light technician fiddles with the lighting and we're off to
the unforgettable opener of Wild West. Unfortunately, the low ceiling
behind Robin means he is limited in twirling his drumsticks as
outrageously as normal. Bernies guitar hero poses go down well with the
camera phone users in the crowd especially the intro to the next song,
Star which showcase his tapping technique which is a perfect foil to
McCoys and Guys thundering bass and drums.
Ball and Chain is next up with the Bernie duck walk along the
all-too-small stage before GMT's first offering from the album,
Cannonball which gives McCoy and Guy a free license to do their own
thing as opposed to copying someone elses work in the previous songs in
the set. Robin cranks the drumming a few notches louder and John
nodding furiously which always makes me wonder how his sunglasses stay
on!!
Calm before the storm for stratocaster purists when Bernie starts with
an extended intro to Down To Here which climaxes into a wall of sound
of strat screaming that only Bernie Torme can do so
effortlessly.....certainly left me breathless!!
You Can't Beat Rock n Roll from the album gets the usual works from the
lads as the lighting technician is earning his wages for the night
trying to keep up. We get a clap-along intro to Rocky Road From Dublin
with the unforgetable Pogues sound which has newer fans tapping their
feet.
The awesome Longer Than Tomorrow is next up which builds into pure
thunder from the rhythm section of Big John and Robin........an
excellent offering!
Bitter and Twisted is showcased but without the usual 'He's Bitter and
I'm Twisted.....and he's the drummer' line, but we do get Bernie
playing the guitar behind his head.....you have to be a bit good to
pull that off, Bernie takes it in his stride so casually.
A bit of crowd banter and Jerry getting No Justice dedicated to him
which I'm sure he appreciated. John McCoy gets to do a spot now and we
get a thoughtful and provoking bass solo which starts us into
Summerland.....thankfully no dreaded disposable cigerette lighters are
held aloft!! Bernie launches into another lesson of stratocaster
mastery before he needs to get his breath back while Robin Guy shows us
a thing or three about powerhouse drumming and we get a slice of the
Gillan favourite, New Orleans and McCoy reveals the mammoth bass
guitar. Whilst the song is well recieved, I personally wish it was
dropped for another cover or a Gillan song like No Easy Way, but thats
only my opinion.
Bernie has a chat to the crowd and the Sid Worth Memorial Trust gets
his thumbs up which I'm sure many of Sids friends and acquaintances
appreciated. We then get a taste of Bernie magic with a blinding solo
which included windmill slashing strumming and power chords Pete
Townsend would be envious of and we even get Bernie playing with his
teeth....and I KNOW that hurts!! Brilliant!!
Some idiot shouts 'Are you taking the piss?' before Bernie cuts him
dead with the Smoke On The Water intro which always goes down a storm
wherever its played...although after all the times he's played it,
Bernie forgot the last verse!! TRUE....luckily, we all know it as well
and helped the fella out on vocals!
A short break and for an encore McCoy sported the legendary dulux
jacket from his Gillan days and said he 'was wearing it for Ace' which
made me feel ten feet tall........its a bit of banter I've had for a
while regarding the jacket. Certainly made my day! the band then
launched into the Hendrix classic, Fire.
The show was excellent, they get better everytime I see them.
Helped the lads pack up and lug the equipment downstairs before the long drive back to Nuneaton

THE PITZ, MILTON KEYNES, 7.7.07
"It’s
been a long time since I’ve seen a band that has excited me this
much. GMT might take its cue from such powerhouse trios of the ilk of
Cream and Mountain, but if you can imagine the latter with enough
performance enhancing anabolic steroids to run the Olympics, you have
some idea of the power of GMT. (...) If there is a better three-piece
than GMT currently doing the rounds then my name is Lord Lucan."

PICTUREDROME HOLMFIRTH 28.10.06
"GMT
played in Huddersfield UK on Saturday and what a show it was.
Huddersfield is Bass player John McCoy's home town and the band didn't
disappoint.
Opening with classic track 'Wild wild West' from Bernie
Torme's Electric Gypsies album and then following it with 'Star' was a
great way to open the show. The band fired into new track 'Cannonball'
from the quite amazing new album 'Bitter and twisted'. The band
showcased many tunes from that all of which were well recieved.(This
new album is album of the year thus far-be sure to check it out). The
jamming these guys do onstage has to be heard to be believed. Robin
Guy(Drums) was on top form and his showmanship is second to NONE. We
then were treated to the 'Gillan' faves 'Trouble' and 'New Orleans'.The
set was closed with 'Smoke on the water' and no-one plays that like
Bernie! The set closed with the Hendrix classic 'Fire' which was a nice
suprise and ole Jimi himself would have been proud. Bernie handles
vocals and lead guitar duties admirably and as a threesome they are an
awesome powerhouse trio.
Check this band out at www.gmtrocks.com
They rock."

QUEENS HALL NUNEATON 27.10.06
...G.M.T.
were to say the least, very loud, very tight, and rather excellent. We
were treated to great mix of songs from the Torme and McCoy school of
rock...The set was kicked off with a rousing version of Wild West,
followed swiftly by Star. We got a selection of new songs also from the
new Bitter and Twisted album. Cannonball and Rocky Road (a heavy rock
sounding kind of Pogues type song) are my faves from this, at the
moment. Gotta say though that the encore song was a little weak for my
taste. McCoy was solid in his bass playing although his dress sense
was as good as ever (see pics) topped off with the ever present dark
sunglasses, beard and bald head. Torme (dressed in his standard
regimental jacket) didn't over do the soloing and had all the poses
down to a T still. I could still visualize him playing Reading
festival. He has aged a little but ain't we all, but he can still play
amazingly, even though a little loud for most. I've not seen Bernie
play since his days with Phil Lewis fronting the band , which was
probably about 15 years ago. Robin Guy was, well, to say the least
Amazing! What a drummer and what a showman! This Guy is breathtaking to
watch playing! ...Anyway hung around after the band had finished with
the hope of meeting Bernie again. He came out from the dressing room
and headed straight towards me and surprisingly shook my hand 1st. He
went into full conversation with me. I don't how true it was, but he
said he could recall meeting me, and the gig at the General Wolfe all
those years ago. He then proceeded to tell me a few personal things,
about staying out of the spotlight for numerous years and spending time
with his family. John McCoy joined in the conversation and surprised me
at how friendly and funny he is, as he looks/seems so unapproachable.
He joked that he remembered me too!
Upon meeting the guys and reflecting back, it made me think how still
down to earth and genuine they are. It's always a pleasure to chat with
band members that I've looked up to over the years. Good on ya GMT! I'd
go see them again and look forward to it!

VIBES FROM THE VINES FESTIVAL Horam, 12 August 2006
A new festival, set in leafy middle of nowhere, in the heart of Sussex,
which by the time GMT appeared attracted 3000 fans............ As
darkness fell, the light show became more apparent, and enter GMT, or
Guy, McCoy, Tormé. Robin Guy is a local drummer of some repute,
and bassist John McCoy and guitarist / vocalist Bernie Tormé
both recorded with Gillan, amongst a whole host of other projects.....
.......Basically, they blew away every preceding band, their bluesy
punk metal explosive. Tormé's own 'Wild West' kicked off before
they played several tracks from GMT's own forthcoming album.
'Rocky Road' is a real cracker with an Irish bent. Drummer Guy is a
hard hitting rocker and a real showman too, and never stopped grinning
ear to ear throughout the set. Tormé and McCoy also add inter
track banter and a sense of humour, something some... other bands could
learn from.
Closing with 'Smoke On The Water' the crowed seemed happy, rocking and oblivious to the weather.

THE PEEL, Kingston, London 13 August 2006
GMT are drummer Robin Guy (Rachel Stamp, Bruce Dickinson), bassist John
McCoy (Gillan, Mammoth) and guitarist Bernie Torme (Gillan, Ozzy et al)
........ this gig was a one off and what a marvellous event it was too.
For a three piece band the sonic assault is full, the arrangements
excellent and tight. Opening with a couple of old Torme numbers Wild
West and Star. Bernie's guitar was blistering, fast, brilliant; McCoy's
bass heavy, thundering, solid, and at times even a little intricate.
Robin Guy's drumming was superb all night.
Some new tracks off the forthcoming album were aired too, including the
excellent Cannonball, Down To Here and Can't Beat Rock'n'Roll. These
are excellent and make the new album a promising prospect.
Bernie is a good frontman too, interjecting with humour. "Everybody has
their faults, I'm a stuttering Irish git, Robin's a drummer, and John's
a fat bastard" before they all launched into Mammoth's Fatman. ........
Rocky Road was one of the best rock songs I've heard. ...... Another
old track made Gillan's own, New Orleans, went down a storm, with Torme
playing Colin Town's old keyboard lines. When on this kind of form,
there is no-one that touch these guys. Blistering speed without the
overdose, energy, finesse, Closing with Smoke On The Water was rousing,
and the encores of No Justice and the old Gillan classic Secret Of The
Dance proved a brilliant finish to a brilliant set.
